The male genitals

Organs visible from the outside

Unlike the female sexual organs, the male sexual organs are located outside the body. They are formed by the penis, by two testicles, contained in a shell called the scrotum, and by glands, located inside the body. The penis is composed of a base, which connects it to the rest of the body at the height of the perineum, a cylindrical body (the shaft of the penis) and a head, called the glans. The body of the penis is crossed by the urethra, through which passes urine, but also sperm. The tip of the penis, that is the glans, is covered by a mobile skin, called the foreskin, connected to the glans by a membrane: the frenulum. During an erection, this skin retracts, leaving the glans exposed.

One mission: to produce in order to reproduce

Conceived for the purpose of allowing reproduction, the male genitals produce sperm, which can fertilize the egg during sexual intercourse. Sperm are manufactured and stored in the testes. They are carried by the sperm, produced by the prostate, a small gland located under the bladder, and by the seminal vesicles. The various elements mix at the height of the prostate and are expelled from the penis at the time of ejaculation. The male sexual organs produce spermatozoa continuously, since adolescence. There is no male menopause, so in theory men can continue to reproduce for life. However, with age, the number of spermatozoa present in the sperm decreases considerably, and the prostate may function less well.

The penis, a symbol of virility

For men, the penis is much more than just an organ: it is a symbol of virility, sexual power and pleasure. It has a particular dimension in his eyes and quickly becomes the object of all attention.

The measures, a source of pride and fear
Since adolescence, the penis is evaluated, measured, compared ... A reason for pride, it can become a source of complexes, if considered too small by its owner. The size has no influence, but on the quality of the sexual act itself. The vagina, in fact, is an elastic organ, which adapts to the shape, and therefore to the size of the penis, during penetration. Furthermore, only the initial part of the female sex, close to the entrance, is sensitive to stimuli. The penis measures an average of 7-10 cm at rest, and 13-18 cm when erect. And even if most women do not link the pleasure during sexual intercourse to the size of the penis, a small penis can cause a lack of self-confidence in men.

An erectile organ
The penis is the characteristic organ of man. Soft at rest, it changes appearance during arousal. When the man is sexually aroused, the amount of blood in the member increases. The cavernous bodies that compose it fill with blood and the volume of the penis increases. It becomes redder, hardens and rises: it is the phenomenon of erection. The man can then slide the penis into the partner's vagina. The muscle contractions caused by the sexual act will lead to ejaculation. The semen will then be expelled from the penis. Once the arousal subsides, the penis returns to its original shape and size.

A sensitive organ
Male genitals are extremely sensitive. Given their fragility, they react poorly to changes in temperature. This is the reason why spermatozoa are stored in the scrotum, outside the body. The temperature of the testicles is therefore lower (about 33 °), which allows them to be stored better.

An organ for pleasure
The male sexual organs are extremely sensitive to stimuli. Very receptive to the mechanical organs caused by the sexual act, they are a source of great pleasure for men. The most sensitive part of the penis is the glans, because most of the nerve endings are located at the height of the frenulum.

Sensitive to infections

Like most organs in the human body, the genitals are exposed to viruses and infections. They can therefore become infected if hygiene is poor, but also during sexual intercourse. Some viruses are sexually transmitted and are extremely contagious: they are infections called STDs (Sexually Transmitted Diseases or STDs). They can be more or less serious, and can be avoided thanks to effective prevention methods such as condoms.
