Find out how to apply it in this video!

How to understand the shape of the eyes

The shape of the eyes helps to determine the characteristics of our face and knowing it is important because it means learning how to make up in the right way. The ideal make-up is the one that harmonizes with our features and enhances the strengths of our gaze. The shapes that the eyes can have, however, are many: from almond-shaped eyes to sunken ones, from those downwards to those with heavy eyelids, ... There are ways to improve ourselves, you just need to understand which type our eyes belong.

To do this it is very simple, just have a mirror and observe yourself carefully. How is the position of the eyelid relative to the rest of the eye? Does the smokey eye effect give me or worsen the intensity of the gaze? Are the eyebrows given the right importance? These are some of the questions we need to answer in order to determine the shape of our eye.
Here are a number of features to consider:

  • How are the ends?

The ends of the eyes already tell us a lot about their shape. In fact, they can end upwards or upwards and to determine this it will be enough to place a pencil horizontally in the center of the eye. If the end is above the line we will have a type upwards, otherwise, downwards

  • Observe the eyelids

Looking in the mirror we can see that if the upper eyelids are not visible, the eyes will be of the single-eyelid type (this is the case of the almond-shaped ones common among oriental women, which are often quite small); if the eyelid, on the other hand, is seen but disappears if we open our eyes, then we will be in the presence of the so-called "hooded" type.

  • Bulging eyes vs. sunken eyes

Who has protruding eyes has a position excessively outwards with respect to the orbits. While in the presence of sunken (or sunken) eyes, they are placed well inside the orbit.

  • Eyes set close or far apart

Depending on the position of the eyes with respect to the face, we can find ourselves facing a type of eyes that are close or spaced apart. In the first case the space between the two bulbs is less than their length, while in the second it will be the opposite. Furthermore, eyes are defined as large when their size is greater than that of the nose and mouth.

  • Round or almond-shaped eyes

If you have the white part around the visible iris, then your eyes are round; if, on the contrary, you do not see any white under or above the iris, then you will have almond eyes.

  • Oval eyes

Oval eyes have no particular flaws to correct and can play with various looks. In general, however, a line of eye liner should be drawn that extends towards the outside of the eye to further enhance their tapered shape. They also work very well with darker colors that strengthen their intensity, while the rule of applying light colors on the inside of the eye and under the arch of the eyebrows is also valid for them.

The right make-up based on the shape of the eyes

  • Almond eye makeup

The almond-shaped eyes stretch outwards and, in general, are proportionate and symmetrical. A make-up that plays on the contrasts of chiaroscuro, perhaps using a dark eye shadow and a light one in pairs, enhances its characteristics and gives depth to the look. This typology, typical of women of Asian origins like the beautiful Lucy Liu, is also called single eyelid and, to tell the truth, it does not have major corrections to be implemented.

  • Round eyes

Rounded eyes are almost the opposite of almond-shaped ones. They are also often slightly protruding and have a fairly large mobile eyelid. For this reason the make-up must try to make them more elongated towards the outside and tighter.
As for bulging eyes, like those of Penelope Cruz, the make-up should go to correct the large and very mobile eyelid; it can be done using dark eyeshadows or a fairly important line of black pencil on the upper eyelid. Then, by blending towards the eyebrows with a lighter shade, the mask effect is avoided, making everything more homogeneous. The optical effect of reducing the protrusion is ensured.

Spice up the look with makeup

The shape that goes "up" is a much sought after positive feature rather than a defect, however, if this is excessive, the gaze can be corrected, taking care not to darken the mobile eyelid too much.
The eyes that tend downwards, on the other hand, have a very particular shape (do you remember Katie Holmes of Dawson "s Creek?) Which must be enhanced through the use of eyeliner.

By drawing a thin line upwards, in fact, an immediate lifting effect is created that lifts the gaze. Another way to make up eyes of this type is to create a highlight with a light eye shadow on the upper browbone to be blended towards the ' inside of the eye, made up with a darker shade. The smokey eye effect, on the other hand, gives intensity because it plays on the contrast of color between a light eye shadow and a darker one.

Correct the position of the eyes

You know Uma Thurman's eyes? Here, those are a classic example of wide-apart eyes. To correct this defect you can use a dark eyeshadow on the innermost part of the eye, blending it outwards; another trick is to not accentuate the extension towards the outside of the lashes but to pass the mascara only on the central portion of the eye. The opposite of this shape are eyes that are too close together, which can be camouflaged by creating a point of light towards the base of the eye, and then blend the end of the eyelid with dark eyeshadow

As for hooded eyes (which have, that is, a layer of skin that almost hides the mobile eyelid), one can intervene by emphasizing the lashes with an "abundant pass of lengthening mascara and a stroke of black pencil to be applied inside the eyelid. "eye to emphasize the look. Those with sunken eyes, on the other hand, should use light-colored eyeshadows and a highlighter on the browbone."

How to make up heavy eyelid eyes

Heavy-lidded eyes aren't necessarily a fault. Indeed, by playing with the right color tone and make-up, the make-up will be able to enhance this shape with such a sensual appearance. The correct way to proceed is to try to make the eye as fine and tapered as possible. Use an eyeshadow (better light colors), on the upper eyelid and then blend it underneath, creating a pointed shape. Better to apply mascara only on the upper lashes (never on the lower ones!), Trying to create an angle that turns upwards at the end of the arch. No to metallic and sparkling colors because they make the eyes look even more puffy.
