Cut crease: the step by step tutorial for a deep look

The cut crease has a retro charm as it was very much in vogue in the 60s, then as often happens, the trend is back in vogue thanks to social networks and in particular to Instagram, where it is very popular due to its being versatile and suitable for all eye types. In a nutshell, to create a perfect cut crease you need to darken the crease of the eye with eye shadows or eyeliner ...

What is the cut crease?

The cut crease consists of a marked line of eyeliner or eye shadow, which cuts the crease of the eye and gives depth to the look. To make it stand out we usually tend to leave the entire mobile eyelid bare, using a light eyeshadow to even out the color and make the brush or eyeliner slide more easily. On the fixed eyelid instead, we will apply a dark eye shadow in order to create a detachment of color: the difference will be very evident especially when the eye is closed, while when the eyes are open the look will become sensual and mischievous. In fact, thanks to the cut crease, the eye is optically larger and the mobile eyelid wider and more visible.

The difference with the 60s is that if in the past the line in the crease of the eye was very clear and marked, now that the cut crease is back in fashion, it provides a softer and more nuanced version, in order to obtain a natural effect. and less defined.

Making the cut crease is not difficult, just take a little hand and study your own shape of the eye going to identify in particular, the natural crease created by the eyelid. Then arm yourself with eyeliner and a blending brush, as well as some eyeshadow in shades of brown and get to work!

How to make a cut crease: step by step tutorial

As we said, making the cut crease is quite simple, just get the material and follow these simple steps.

Needed:

  • pen eyeliner, or gel eyeliner with brush;
  • dark eyeshadows (brown, black, gray, blue etc ...)

Method:

  • After applying a primer all over the eyelid (to increase the hold and yield of the eyeshadows), apply a light eyeshadow and blend it.
  • Start defining the crease, but be careful not to overdo it with the dark shades, because the final effect must be soft. Proceed by applying a little eye shadow at a time, then gradually add a little powder until you get the desired effect. Blend well without lingering on the inner part which must remain bright. With a smaller brush, bring the color also on the outer part: this nuance will be the base of the cut crease eyeliner.
  • Now is the time to focus on the mobile eyelid. Prefer soft shades such as ivory or powder to obtain a luminous and uniform effect. A variant could be glitter eyeshadows: just apply a small amount by tapping the product on the eyelid with a flat brush and let it dry.Be careful not to overdo it since the shaded effect must remain clearly visible, for an impeccable cut crease effect.
  • To make the cut crease even more beautiful and special, apply a line of eyeliner. To do this, just start from the inner corner and move outwards, trying to create an elongated tail in the direction of the eyebrows. Do you want to stand out and get noticed? So an idea could be to use a colored eyeliner. The trend of colored cut crease comes directly from the fashion catwalks.

Cut crease for those with small mobile eyelids

Do you have little space on the eyelid and are you worried about not being able to delineate the crease of the eye? A trick to make the cut crease despite the small mobile eyelid, is to draw the line of eyeliner or eyeshadow, not exactly in correspondence of the natural crease, but slightly above, to give the optical illusion of larger eyes.
With a soft and small blending brush, apply a not too dark color (a brownish or a taupe) in the outer corner and along the crease. Then apply a light color in the central part of the eyelid and in the inner corner. The higher the dark line, the larger the eyelid will appear, the whole look will be more open and elongated.

Cut crease for those with a large mobile eyelid

For those who have the opposite "problem", that is a very wide mobile eyelid, it is good to know that this type of make-up will be ideal.
In this case you will have to concentrate the shadows on the inside, blending the dark eyeshadow along the entire crease, but being careful not to close your gaze too much. The lighter eyeshadow will go to the inner corner to illuminate.
Those who have a lot of space on the mobile eyelid can afford not to "cheat" and will be able to trace the line of the cut crease, following its natural crease of the eye. A real contouring of the eye will be created, illuminating the most protruding parts and darkening those that fall.
Finally, the beautiful large eyelid will also be perfect for applying a fairly thick line of eyeliner to complete the whole.

How to make the cut crease for those with bulging eyes?

The cut crease can help correct bulging eyes. The secret to obtaining a "wow" effect is to draw a very thin line with a dark pencil (brown rather than black) that runs along the crease and carefully blend it with a brush that is large enough so that the nuance is not noticeable. Experiment, draw small strokes with the pencil and blend until the result is fully satisfied.

The cut crease for close eyes

In case you have your eyes close together, avoid making the complete cut-create: what can you do? Apply a darker shade on the outside, a lighter shade on the inside and top it all off with a thin line of eyeliner or well-blended black pencil. Don't forget to highlight the central part of the face as well. If you want to be daring for a particular occasion, have fun adding a bright and particular color (red, fuchsia) only in the final tail of the make-up.

Cut crease: how to do it if you have distant eyes

Is the cut crease also good for those with distant eyes? Yes, just take a few small steps. Use the darker color in the crease up to the inner corner: this trick will help you create an optical effect whereby the eyes will seem closer to each other. Finally, remember not to overdo it with the eyeliner near the tear duct: it is better to use a black shaded pencil with a special brush.
