I have to do a cervical swab: how is it done?

The cervical swab is a quick and pain-free analysis: it is done in 5 minutes! This is a minimally invasive procedure. The gynecologist will collect cervical cells and secretions with a thin swab and then proceed with swiping the collected material on the slide. These containers with the analyzes are sent to the analysis laboratory: it usually takes a few days to get the answer. The exam, as you can see, lasts only a few minutes: you may feel a slight discomfort (but no pain). The test is performed by the gynecologist using the speculum to widen the walls of the vagina and thanks to the thin cotton swabs and cytobrush that allow you to collect tissue samples and possibly bacteria and microorganisms: if you relax you will feel absolutely nothing and in a few minutes you can get dressed just like for a pap smear! Remember, however, not to do vaginal douching before the test at least 72 hours before and to notify the gynecologist if you are doing any antibiotic therapy or if you have done it during this period because it could distort the result.
