Scalp scrub: 4 DIY recipes to try at home

The do-it-yourself scalp scrub has nothing to envy to the products already on the market, indeed, the use of simple, natural and affordable ingredients makes this treatment economical, easy to make and effective. Before you discover the recipes we have designed for all types of scalp, we want to leave you with a video to prepare a bio mask useful for dry and brittle hair.

The benefits of a homemade scalp scrub

Baking soda, sugar, conditioner ... are just a few examples of the ingredients to use to recreate the scalp scrub that best suits your needs at home. Before moving on to recipes for dry, normal or oily hair, here is an overview of the benefits of this treatment.
The scalp area needs to be exfoliated from time to time to regenerate the skin and stimulate blood circulation, just like we would with a normal body scrub. The benefits of the scrub for the scalp are many: the skin is purified, the production of sebum (in the case of oily skin) balanced and normalized, finally, even if you do not have problems of this type, eliminating dead cells helps to make hair grow healthier and stronger.

Scalp scrub: instructions for use

One of the main rules when deciding to do a homemade scalp scrub is not to overdo it. The most common risk is to stress the area too much, worsening the situation rather than solving it.

The selection of ingredients according to your needs is also an important step in creating your own personalized scrub. In general, a grainy ingredient is always needed: sugar or coffee are excellent for sensitive skin, while salt and bicarbonate are more abrasive and therefore perfect for a normal scalp. To these you will have to add a moisturizing ingredient, such as coconut milk or aloe vera gel, but a very common conditioner is also fine. To finish, you will need a nourishing ingredient, such as a vegetable oil.

Once ready, the DIY scalp scrub should be applied to wet hair, massaging with circular movements to reactivate the microcirculation. To enhance the effects, you can keep it on for about 15 minutes, then rinse well and proceed with the normal shampoo.

  • 1 teaspoon of sea salt
  • 1 teaspoon of honey

How often should the scalp scrub be done?

After this overview, it is also good to specify how often to do the scalp scrub. The advice is to undergo the exfoliating and regenerating treatment at least a couple of times a month if you have normal or dry hair. In the case of oily hair, however, it will be good to scrub even once a week, especially if it is a product that we have created at home with natural ingredients.
