Split ends: causes, remedies and how to prevent them

Do you also suffer from tricoptilosis? Don't make that face, we're not talking about some unknown disease or dysfunction. Tricoptilosis is nothing more than that weakening of the hair that leads to the common and much hated double (and sometimes even triple) ends.

But before discovering everything there is to know about how to prevent and remedy split ends, here are some suggestions for getting shiny and soft hair right away:

Causes of split ends: why do they form?

Why do split ends form? Basically we can say that the more fragile, fine, weakened the hair is, the easier it is for it to fork.

There are also behaviors, often common (including the exaggerated and too vigorous use of the brush), which significantly contribute to accelerating the formation process of split ends.

Whether it is thermal injuries - due to excessive use of hairdryers, straighteners and curling irons - or in the case of chemical injuries - due to coloring, bleaching, straightening and permanent treatments - the result is the same: dull hair, easy to break, dull and the inevitable appearance of split ends.

Split ends: the remedies

There is little to do: if there are split ends, they must be cut. If you do not want to have to go to the point of resorting to scissors, take it into your head to begin to consistently and punctually follow a series of rules and advice to avoid forming split ends.

Once these are there, unfortunately, there is nothing to do ... except cut! However, you can act earlier, to prevent them and thus not having to resort to drastic remedies.

How to prevent split ends

If the tips of your hair are still nice full, full-bodied and show no signs of an impending bifurcation, don't relax too much, the double tip is always lurking. If you follow these simple and practical tips, however, you can anticipate it and beat it on time!

  • Try to use the hair dryer as little as possible - and in any case never at the maximum temperature - plates and irons;
  • Do not rub or comb your hair when it is wet, at most use a wide-toothed wooden comb;
  • If you love ponytails and chignons, use soft ribbons and elastics, which do not traumatize the hair too much;
  • Before proceeding with drying, apply a product on the tips leave in which further protects the tips from heat and pollution;
  • Avoid, as far as possible, chemical treatments;
  • Choose brushes with natural bristles and act gently (you are not grooming a horse);
  • Make regular nourishing compresses and masks that can moisturize and strengthen the hair.
