Why is it so difficult to report violence?
How to explain violence? The shock that one experiences when one is subjected to an "aggression is very strong. It is not easy to repair the damage suffered by the life of those who have experienced violence, and therefore a violation of one's own mind and body, a general violation of one's own to be as a person and then as a woman Why is it so difficult to denounce violence and ask for justice for what one has experienced?
Before addressing the topic it might be heartening to look at the tenacity and strength of a woman who defends against an "aggression, look here:
1. What should be done after being abused
The victim's first reaction is to go home and take a shower, to get rid of the dirty feeling inside. Instead, what you should do right away is go to the hospital. It would be appropriate to choose an emergency room equipped to accommodate victims of sexual violence, structures that are increasingly on the rise, because they already know how to intervene there: it is in fact necessary to take samples, start the procedure for the risk of contracting sexually transmitted diseases and proceed with subsequent checks with respect to the possibility of a pregnancy. Another step would be to photograph any signs left on the body, because they will be useful for the criminal responsibility of the perpetrator of the violence. The difficulty in this case, however, is having to immediately facing questions that trace the terrible sensations just experienced: it takes a lot of clarity and fortitude to do so. For the victims of violence there is, in addition to the Telefono Rosa, also the refuges, as a support to deal with this trauma in all aspects and to receive all the necessary information.

The reasons for not reporting violence can be various, and although it is wrong not to report, the reasons for this choice are not impossible to understand. We are afraid, above all, of not being believed: it is difficult for there to be witnesses, the victim's word is against that of the executioner and even today it happens that we feel almost accused for the violence suffered. Like? With questions like: Why were you there at that time? Why did you dress like that? Why did you choose the club? Why did you drink your drink? What attitude did you have? Why did you trust and get in the car? The blame is heavy to manage, many judge the victims as partly perpetrators Many women feel guilty regardless, for their own inability to react to violence or for the feeling of having caused it.But is a murderer less guilty of his crime, just because the victim could provoke it?
Furthermore, the most frequent violence is the work of a known person, more than that of the unknown abuser who hunts down the street, for example a companion, a family member, a friend or a neighbor: in short, men we know. This eventuality leads to considerable doubts about the possibility of being believed and actually taken into consideration.
3. What happens when violence is reported
If after a violence you go to the police, you should first be directed to an emergency room equipped for the case, after which a criminal proceeding will begin, in which you can form a civil party. It is not unimportant that there is the opportunity of the probative incident, in which you tell your story in a private dimension, with the possibility of having a trial behind closed doors. Obviously, for such a procedure, the economic question must be considered. In this regard it is also useful to know that there is the possibility of having the so-called free legal aid, with which the state bears the legal costs, both for the lawyer and for any consultants.
The important reflection concerns the "importance of information", whoever suffers violence must know that he can and must do something. Even if the road seems uphill, we are not alone in facing it. Teaching respect for those we love also starts from this: from the truth, the truth to be claimed in order to respect oneself to the end. Respect for the body of one's neighbor and for his choices, for those of a woman, it must be a foundation of the future that we are building: it starts with us.
