The meaning of the color pink

The color pink in the West is associated with feelings of calm, tenderness, sweetness and romance. It is the color of love par excellence, the undisputed symbol of youth and innocence. It is used above all for the clothing and accessories of little girls, even if until a few decades ago it was not considered a nuance of the fair sex, on the contrary; to male babies, up to the Second World War, this color was attributed as a union of red (symbol of strength) and white (purity, spirituality of soul). All the girls, on the other hand, were generally assigned the color blue, because blue was the color of the Virgin's veil.

In our tradition, since the Middle Ages, it has been associated with the idea of childhood, with a delicate and innocent world precisely because its chromatism is soft and softened by the spiritual influence of white. Pink is often recognized as the symbol of the ability to love and be loved, to live feelings with passion and not to be afraid of tenderness. It is one of the colors that over time has changed its meaning several times, going from being a symbol of virility to a queen of the female universe.

In other cultures, very different from ours, pink is not so closely linked to women: in Japan, for example, it is combined with the idea of masculinity because cherry blossoms (pink) remind us of young warriors who will die in battle. China, on the other hand, did not even know this shade until the advent of the first trade exchanges with the West, so much so that the name "pink" in Chinese translates as "foreign color".

Because pink is associated with femininity

Pink is generally associated with the female world because it evokes in us the characteristics of sensitivity, sweetness, tenderness and care that we usually attribute to women. According to popular tradition, since the latter manifest their emotions more clearly and more spontaneously than males, the color has naturally been traced back to women. It seems, in fact, that this tenuous color manages to bring out repressed feelings more easily because it stimulates abandonment and listening.

Pink brings out the sweet and delicate side of each of us and is considered an extremely relaxing color. The fact that in recent decades this dye has been the preserve of female childhood, however, does not mean that it cannot be used by anyone who is fascinated by it.

The properties of the pink color according to chromotherapy

According to chromotherapy, pink would have beneficial effects on mental relaxation and the ability to get in touch with others. It is a color that helps to make the climate between different people relaxed and predisposes to listening: it unites hearts and transmits positive sensations. Indeed, a series of researches conducted in the "60s and" 70s have shown that pink has relaxing effects on the psyche, so much so that it would slow heartbeats and muscle tension. For this reason it has been used in some American prisons and in the locker rooms of football teams to induce prisoners and athletes to calm and relax.

This effect is probably given by the union between the strength of red and the balance of white, which has the merit of curbing aggression by inducing common sense and reflection. Pink is, therefore, a color that predisposes to calm, to balance and understanding. Those who love pink are open, curious, sweet and empathetic, able to communicate even with different people.
On the contrary, those who reject pink tend to withdraw into themselves and erect barricades so as not to let their sweet or weak side be seen.People who do not like this color are often harsh and adopt defense mechanisms: moreover, they are not comfortable in "expressing their feelings.

For the rest, all its shades (antique pink, dusty pink, pastel, shocking, ...) find a perfect location in the apartment because it is one of the colors that manages to combine with multiple shades. In fact, many products, both in fashion and in furnishings, exploit the properties of pink and its novelty effect.
