DIY lip balm: 5 simple and effective recipes
Lips always need the right hydration to maintain a healthy and velvety appearance and avoid dryness, chapping and annoying cuts that can appear, especially in the winter.
Just like for the face, to which we dedicate a specific daily skincare ritual, even this delicate part of the body requires constant care and targeted beauty treatments, including a scrub to be applied regularly, like the one we suggest in the following video.
Among the natural beauty remedies that cannot be missing to show off perfect lips, there is undoubtedly a constant use of a lip balm that has the power to nourish, moisturize and protect our lips from dryness and atmospheric agents, giving them a uniform and velvety.
The thing that perhaps not all of you know is that it is not necessary to resort to the classic products on the market, often not exactly natural, but you can also proceed with an effective and cheaper do-it-yourself, creating a perfect homemade lip balm with simple cooking ingredients.
In fact, it is enough to equip yourself with the appropriate containers, such as sticks now empty of old lip balm or metal boxes similar to those of eye contour creams, in which we will create our recipe to obtain a lip balm suitable for our needs.
We remind you, before proceeding further, that like any preservative-free cosmetic product, it is good to consume and use it no later than six months from the date of production.

1. Homemade cocoa butter: the classic recipe
This is undoubtedly the simplest recipe that sees the use of:
1 tablespoon cocoa butter (you can also buy it in pastry shops)
1 tablespoon shea butter
a few drops of extra virgin olive oil (replaceable with sweet almond oil, known for its soothing and emollient properties)
3-4 drops of an essential oil of your choice to give a more pleasant fragrance and flavor (such as mint or lavender essential oil)
Before starting with the actual preparation, you need to get a stick or a small circular bowl, wash it and dry it thoroughly, where you will then put your mixture, once done.
Here is the procedure:
Melt the two butters in a bain-marie, remove the mixture obtained from the heat and add the chosen oil and one of the essential oils of your preference.
Mix everything, pour the amalgam into the previously prepared container (stick or circular jar) and leave in the refrigerator for at least 24 hours.
2. Sweet Orange DIY Lip Balm
all ingredients
This recipe instead provides:
2 teaspoons of cocoa butter
1 tablespoon of beeswax (or vegetable) - known for its nourishing action and ideal for giving consistency to the final product
1 tablespoon of castor oil
2 drops of sweet orange essential oil
1 drop of vitamin E (optional)
Small notes
1. You can eventually replace cocoa butter with shea butter
2. the castor oil with one of the following oils: extra virgin olive oil, jojoba, argan or sweet almond
3. sweet orange with another essential oil, including geranium, considered an excellent anti-wrinkle, or tea tree oil, which helps prevent herpes.
Melt the first three ingredients in a bain-marie for a few minutes, then add the essential oil to the melted mixture and mix carefully. At this point, the procedure remains the same: pour it into the container and put it in the fridge for a day.
3. Nourishing and soothing cocoa butter with honey
It is one of the most nutritious recipes; here are all the ingredients:
1 tablespoon of cocoa butter
1 tablespoon shea butter
1 tablespoon honey
2 teaspoons of jojoba oil
After the first step, that is to melt the two butters in a bain-marie, just add the honey and the drops of jojoba oil, mixing everything. To customize the recipe and give a touch of fragrance to your lip balm, you can add a few drops of an essential oil of your choice to the finish.
4. Cocoa butter with a fruity flavor
We now come to a more "greedy" variant, based on strawberries.
Mash the strawberries with a fork and take a teaspoon of juice, taking care to remove all the seeds. Then add the honey and the shea butter, and place it all in a saucepan, which you will leave to simmer for a few minutes, until you get a homogeneous amalgam. Put the contents in the stick (or circular jar) and put it in the fridge.
5. Cocoa, vanilla or cinnamon flavored lip balm
The basis of the three variants is always the same: two tablespoons of cocoa butter and two of shea, which must be melted in a bain-marie and to which the different ingredients will be added.
Cocoa version
Add a small square of chocolate to the base and melt. Return the contents to the stick and refrigerate.
Vanilla version
In this, we will add instead the beeswax or mimosa. Once the solution has dissolved, add 3 of oleoresin to the vanilla.
Cinnamon version
Add 2 drops of sweet almond oil and a little ground cinnamon to the base. Put it on the heat, and after removing it, add a drop of cinnamon essential oil.
