With a low-carbohydrate diet, however, you have to give up some of the classic foods of daily nutrition, as they are rich in carbohydrates, including:

  • Bread
  • Muesli
  • Fruit
  • Sweets
  • Fast food foods
  • Ready meals

The following are outright taboos on a low-carb diet:

1. Meat and poultry

As mentioned earlier, in this category, meat comes first; it contains only proteins and fats.

Obviously, however, it also depends on how this raw material is cooked; the situation changes if you eat a breaded steak, as you add the carbohydrates of the breadcrumbs.
Meatballs also contain small amounts of carbohydrates, as well as sausages and other similar products.

The same thing goes for chicken: in its natural form it does not contain carbohydrates, while in the breaded or fried version, it presents them in small quantities.

2. The eggs

Eggs are a food that consists almost exclusively of proteins and fats. Given that their carbohydrate content is less than 1 gram per 100 grams, they can in fact be considered a carbohydrate-free food.

3. The fish

Pure fish, like meat, belongs to the completely carbohydrate-free group of foods.

The situation changes if you eat it breaded or fried. This does not mean that it must always be cooked and only steamed: you can also look for new recipes full of taste but light. For example, you can also make a "tasty and carb free breading with herbs and mozzarella for a light but full of flavor dish.

However, there are some types of fish, such as herring, which, although in small quantities, contain carbohydrates. so it is always good to be careful, especially if you are following a low carb diet on a regular basis.

4. Seafood

Like fish, seafood is largely free of carbohydrates.
The only exceptions are:

  • Crabs
  • Shrimp.

These are low in carbohydrates but are less than 5 grams per 100 grams, so let's talk about minimal amounts.

5. Some types of cheese

Vegetables are undoubtedly the best food: they are the only carbohydrate and fat free food.

However, there are some exceptions:

  • Beet
  • Sweet potatoes
  • Corn.

These foods contain slightly more carbohydrates. However, it is only the sweet potatoes that increase the quantity with over 20 grams for every 100 grams of food.

7. Nuts and dried fruit

With walnuts, you need to be very careful about your carbohydrate intake. Cashews, for example, contain 30 grams of carbohydrates per 100 grams. But most other nuts are around 5-8 grams. .

100 g of hazelnuts: 10 g of carbohydrates
100 g of macadamia: 4 g of carbohydrates

8. The oil

9. Herbs

Herbs such as basil or oregano contain small amounts of carbohydrates, usually less than 10 grams per 100 grams of herbs. In addition, very little is used in cooking. They therefore belong to the group of foods that are largely free of. carbohydrates.
