Holocaust survivors in ten portraits, so that the new generations never forget
Why is it important to remember who suffered the atrocities of the Holocaust? Because over time we risk forgetting even the most terrible events and the people who lived them. If some of us have had the honor of meeting and getting to know some people survivors of the Shoah, with the passage of time it will be impossible for this to happen. Today's generations will not be able to see firsthand the suffering in the eyes of those who have experienced the persecution, they will not be able to hear the harsh truth in their stories. But it is important that they know, that they are aware of what happened to do so that it doesn't happen again.
As Primo Levi wrote: "All those who forget their past are doomed to relive it".
We have collected about ten images from the web, all taken by Dennis Darling, which portray some survivors, to never forget.
From Alice Herz Sommer, who until her death in February 2014 was the oldest survivor in the world, to Felix Kolmer, these images are a visual memory of the suffering these people have experienced, and that they had to carry within them to the rest of their life.
