The spread of reborn dolls in Italy

These surprisingly human-looking dolls have been circulating in Italy for some years now. However, the writer Vincenzo Maisto, through the blog, has raised the recent interest in the phenomenon. Mr. destroy.
The blogger's attention was in fact captured by some posts intercepted in the Facebook group My special baby, a meeting place between women who would treat their dolls as real children, exchanging advice on how to "raise" them at best.

It is not yet clear whether there is some psychosis behind this trend or if it is just an extreme form of collecting, hobby or entertainment. In both cases, the owners of the dolls seem to develop a certain morbidity towards them, which leads them to convince themselves and others, as nanny, companion and potential pediatrician, to take care of them as if they were real children.
These dolls, in vinyl or silicone, appear real to the eye and to the touch. Many have real hair, sewn one by one (through a process called rooting), a magnetic mouth to hold the pacifier and a heartbeat simulator. Thanks to the process by which they are "created", reborning, they seem to have all the characteristics of a real baby, including weight.

To what extent can technological progress, which provides us with dolls identical to babies and sex-dolls interacting with the customer, can be considered innocent fun?
