Take care of the lingerie

Keep it in order

When tidying up your laundry, separate it from the rest of your clothing, preferably placing it in a sheet of tissue paper or in a fabric bag. If you are storing it in a drawer, paper or fabric it should be papered to prevent the wood from pulling threads on your undergarments.

The care of clothes

Follow our tips to keep your favorite lingerie as long as possible.

- If you want to preserve the color of your underwear for a long time, after the first wash, soak them for 10 minutes in white vinegar, and then rinse.

- Silk and wool should not be machine washed.

- Hang your clothes out in the open air, never put them to dry on the radiator or in the dryer.

- Avoid ironing bras and underwear.

- To whiten it, never use bleach: it spoils the colors, turns the white yellow, and eats the lace. Instead, opt for a mild, whitening detergent.

- Follow the advice written on the label, especially for silk or lace garments.

- Avoid dry cleaning, especially for silk.

- Tights, bustiers and corsets can only be washed by hand.

How to wash your lingerie

It is preferable to wash it by hand. But be careful: you can also put it in the washing machine. Here are the steps to follow in washing:

By hand

- At each wash, separate the whites, colors and blacks.

- Soak your underwear for about ten minutes in water no hotter than 30 ° C.

- Use only castile soap or mild detergents, and delicately lather your undergarments without ever scrubbing. Wring out the wet parts.

- Always rinse all clothing first with hot water and then with cold water.

- Allow to dry very gently by placing the laundry on a drying rack or towel to absorb excess water. Lightweight fabrics and muslin dry more easily when laid out in the open air.

- To quickly dry a bra you need right away, you can use a salad drainer. It is a quick and effective method, which does not damage the garments.

In the washing machine

You don't always have time to wash your underwear by hand… it is often tempting to mix it with the rest of the dirty underwear. It is possible to wash the lingerie in the washing machine, provided that some rules are respected:

- Use powder detergents for delicate fabrics, and be careful to choose one that does not contain perborate or chlorine.

- To protect it, before putting it in the drum, put the lingerie in a protective net or pillowcase. Without protection, underwire bras can puncture fabrics and damage the washing machine.

- The dryer is prohibited: it damages the fabrics, tends to discolor them and shrinks underwear.

- Always wash at a low temperature. Choose short programs for delicate fabrics.
