Face peeling: what a beauty treatment is and how it works that gives you a new and radiant skin

Peeling, in English, means to exfoliate the skin. This procedure is essential so that our epidermis is always perfectly oxygenated, clean and free from possible occlusions. The cell renewal process must be helped and encouraged as time passes, which is why face peeling becomes an indispensable treatment. A valid ally for facial wellness is also the Jade Roller, find out how to use it in this video.

Face peeling: what is it?

Main responsible for the "gray veil" that appears on the skin at the end of the day, external residues (pollution, dust, make-up) form an opaque film under which cell residues accumulate, which intensify the signs of aging. Since these impurities, even invisible, accentuate the appearance of wrinkles and discoloration, cleansing becomes a beauty ritual guaranteeing lasting youth.

Among the various gestures that make up the skincare routine, peeling certainly plays a decisive role because it is capable of removing the outer layer of the skin, pushing it to regenerate.

Composed of a single acid or a set of acids (the most common are: glycolic, citric, mandelic, lactic, salicylic and trichloroacetic), the face peeling can be superficial, medium and deep. The choice depends on your skin type which, if sensitive, obviously should not be attacked with too intense treatments, and on the results you want to achieve. If the goal, for example, is to brighten the skin or renew the tan, you can choose a more superficial peeling.

When and how often should you have a face peeling?

Face peeling is a treatment to be done especially in autumn / winter, avoiding the warm season when the sun is more intense. The reason is to be found in the photosensitizing ingredients and therefore the risk is to increase the pigmentation of the skin spots, rather than attenuate them.
Furthermore, to be even more effective, peeling must be accompanied by adequate daily skin care, with specific cleansers, lotions or tonics with salicylic acid, regular scrubs, creams and serums based on lightening ingredients.
Sunspots appear as a result of exposure to the sun without adequate protection, which is why our advice is to always use a day cream with sunscreens, avoiding as much as possible exposure to the sun for several hours without spf.
To understand how often it is necessary to repeat the face peeling, just look at your skin to understand if it needs treatment or not: imperfections, dull or dull complexion, blackheads and dark spots are the main indicators that will allow you to understand if your skin needs deep exfoliation.

DIY face peeling: how to do it at home in a few simple steps

If you are a lover of homemade preparations, you can decide to make a natural DIY face peeling yourself according to your needs.
To do this, you first need an ingredient that allows you to exfoliate the skin:

  • bicarbonate, the most delicate ideal for sensitive areas
  • sugar, medium intensity exfoliant
  • coarse salt, ideal for less delicate areas.

Once you have chosen one of these basic ingredients, you will need to add a vegetable oil:

  • For dry skin: olive or rosehip oil
  • For combination and normal skin: coconut or sesame oil
  • For oily skin: aloe vera gel

To enhance the benefits of peeling and improve its aroma, you can also add a few drops of essential oil, such as orange (invigorating), geranium (regenerating) or tea tree (astrigent).

Mix the ingredients, apply a little of the mixture on the affected area after washing it, but not dry it, and gently massage the entire area to be treated, making circles and taking care to avoid sensitive parts such as the eye area. Let the ingredients sit for a few minutes and then rinse.

Face peeling at the dermatologist

The face peeling is still a treatment to be done by the dermatologist and is one of the most loved by the stars. It is a chemical peeling to be performed only in specialized beauty centers, with which it is possible to obtain an optimal result of toned and luminous skin.
At the base of this type of treatment there is glycolic acid: together with alpha-hydroxy acids and lactic acid it acts in depth, managing to smooth the skin.
The face peeling performed by the dermatologist involves several steps, let's see what they are.

  • 1 - skin analysis: the dermatologist will analyze the skin to understand its conditions and understand which is the most suitable intensity of peeling, as well as the most suitable active ingredients to achieve the best possible result.
  • 2 - treatment: at this point the dermatologist proceeds to apply the product on the skin, distributing it evenly in the areas to be treated, to ensure that the result is as uniform as possible.
  • 3 - use of bandages: in some cases some bandages or gauze are made to adhere to the skin to ensure that the acid can penetrate all the abstracts of the epidermis, managing to act fully. The use of bandages also serves to prevent the product from evaporating, protecting the skin from any dust or bacteria present in the air.
  • 4 - product removal: after a preset time, the doctor will remove the bandage and analyze the result. Depending on the product used and the type of acid present, it may be necessary to rinse the face, but in reality this step is not always necessary.

If you decide to have a facial peeling at the dermatologist, know that substances are used that could redden the skin, increasing photosensitization.
