How to repair a piece of furniture

Hide the cracks

If the crack is barely seen but feels to the touch:

  • With your finger, penetrate a little glue into the crack.
  • Let the glue dry and then remove the excess with a damp sponge.

If the crack is long and thin:

  • Rub the crack with sandpaper.
  • Cut a piece of wood siding that is the same shape as the crack.
  • Put some glue on both the lining and the crack.
  • Insert the piece of liner into the crack and let it dry.

If the crack is very large and clearly visible:

  • Cut a triangular-shaped piece of wood the size of the crack.
  • Clean it with wood scissors and smear it with glue.
  • Gently hammer the piece of wood into the crack until it produces a "full" sound.

Make the scratches disappear

  • If the furniture is waxed: rub the scratch with a rag soaked in white spirit or white spirit.
  • If the furniture is painted: do the same thing but use alcohol instead of white spirit.
  • If it is walnut wood: gently pass a walnut kernel on the scratch.
  • If it is mahogany wood: apply a layer of iodine dye with a brush until then let it dry and apply a coat of wax.
  • If it is maple wood: apply a little iodine tincture diluted with alcohol.

Once you have taken care of the scratch, apply the wax, first where the scratch was, then on the entire piece of furniture, in order to harmonize everything.

Remove the air bubbles

  • Put a piece of cardboard on the air bubble.
  • Put the iron on it.
  • Place a weight on the cardboard for an hour. The bubble should be gone.

If the bubble hasn't gone, there is a other method:

  • Score the air bubble with a razor blade.
  • Put a little bit of vinyl glue in the incision.
  • Flatten the air bubble with your finger and remove excess glue.

Repair the holes

  • Choose a cover of the same nature as the furniture and cut a piece of it to the shape of the part to be repaired.
  • With a wood scissors, scrape the surface of the cabinet.
  • Put a sheet of paper soaked in liquid glue into the hole that you will need to let dry.
  • Glue your lining.
  • Let it dry for the necessary time, tightening everything with a vice.

If the piece of furniture is not lacquered but in solid wood, just close the hole with shellac of the same color as the piece of furniture.

Eliminate burns

Too hot dishes or other heat sources left a burn on your furniture!

  • With a grinder or a scraper, remove the burnt part, i.e. the black one.
  • Cover the halo with some wood pulp.
  • Paint the paste the same color as the cabinet.
  • Cover everything with clear epoxy glue.

These repairs are easy to make and affordable for everyone! If the job is done right, your furniture will regain its original appearance and no one will know that you had to repair it!
