How to unsubscribe from Facebook: what you need

Have you decided you want to remove yourself from Facebook but have you realized that the operation is not as easy as expected? Do not worry, we will teach you to delete the account to eliminate all traces of you without losing data and, above all, not going crazy. First step: save the profile data

Before permanently deleting your profile from Facebook, you must save your personal data. The social network gives the possibility to backup so as not to lose all the various contents (photo albums, videos, posts, ...) published over the years. Here is the step by step guide that will lead you to download a copy of your data directly from Facebook:

  • Access the Settings menu of your profile, click on Your information on Facebook (on the sidebar on the left) and then click Download your information. From the page that opens you can create a backup of photos, videos, messages and, in general, all the information you have posted over the years on the social network.
  • You can also choose the date range and save only the data for a period.
  • Choose the format in which to download the data (HTML is better) and the quality of the audio and video content.
  • Click on Create file and wait until Facebook finishes creating the backup.

If you want to back up via smartphone or tablet, follow these steps:

  • From the Facebook app click on the Settings & Privacy menu, then on Settings and Download your information.
  • Select the data to save between posts, photos, albums, videos and comments.
  • Choose the date range, format and quality of the content.
  • Click on Create File. Be aware that the procedure could last for days.
  • Once the operation is complete, Facebook will send you a message with a link to click to download the file.

Backing up is not mandatory but it is strongly recommended, otherwise you will lose all the data accumulated over the years permanently.

Delete personal information from Facebook

Before moving on to the actual elimination of the Facebook account, it is necessary to delete all personal information contained in the social network. It goes like this:

  • Click the Edit Profile button located on your cover image. A window will open with your contact information, such as bio, job, education, ...
  • Remove the data you want to delete.
  • It also deletes family relationships on Facebook, so that no one can find any trace of you through your family members registered on the social network.
  • Now proceed to delete all photos.

This operation is tedious but necessary if you do not want your personal data to continue to circulate on the web.
